My bestie said this book sound like her life, almost wishes she had the money to actually live it. And I guess that made me think maybe I’m the Reva of our dynamic?
The way knew Reva was gonna die as soon as they mentioned the office transfer! Come on now! The way they set that up! Poor girl! What a way to finish the book. One page final chapter? Crazy!
I love books about grief I’m sorry! Especially about losing your mum. So real to me.
“My mother hadn't been easy to love. I’m sure she was complicated and worthy of further analysis, and she was beautiful, but I didn't ever really know her.”
Nah stop it!
This book was vulgar, and heavy but I really enjoyed it. One star lost because our unnamed protagonist was a bigot and and asshole but I understand her grief. This book has an interesting take on the years of built up grief expressing itself in an aggressive way. It was also interesting to read about her relationship with her parents before they died and how that impacted the grief (as per my favourite quote above).

I was not necessarily impressed. I guess I went in with far too many expectations because of what others have said about it. Found the writing beautiful, it just lacked much else. Really got down the apathetic side of being depressed, so depressed you don’t even recognize it as being depression anymore. Ending was blunt, which was exactly what was needed for this kind of book.
