This book explains what it is really like for orcas living in captivity. It made me both sad and angry. I already knew Sea World sucked, but this goes into more detail about the horrors the orcas go through.
Amazing book! If you enjoyed the documentary Blackfish then you will love this!! It goes into so much more than the tragic accidents that happened and really focuses on the sociology and psychology of orcas in the wild vs in captivity. It’s truly horrible what seaworld has created and done to these animals. The author does a great job at reflecting on his own experiences while also giving factual information.
Absolutely loved this book and would recommend to any one interested in orcas or wanting to learn more after the blackfish documentary.

I knew I would have a hard time reading this book because of the subject matter and I was completely right. I am absolutely disgusted at the way these intelligent animals have been treated for years. Enough is enough! This book is informative and the author does not hold back. He admits that he was wrong with some of his beliefs and understands what is right, he does not bash Sea World, but he DOES get honest with their practices - something I can really appreciate.
While this book is based off of his life, I did learn quite a bit of things that I was not aware of prior to reading this book. I am glad I was able to get another perspective on this company and able to advocate for ALL animals held in captivity.

While the larger story is compelling this particular telling would have benefited from a stronger ghost writer and/or editor. Disjointed all over and cursory where it should have been in- depth, this read left me disappointed and longing for better.

The story needs to be told - it's important that people read this book. You can tell that writing isn't his primary skill, but the story carries and held my interest despite the flat prose.
