This book was received from Net Galley in exchange for a fair review.

Another nice adaptation of a classic book into manga format by Stacy King, Sense and Sensibility is rendered clearly in the adaptation I received from Udon. I love the idea of combining manga, which gets children's brain to look at writing and format in other ways (back to front, right to left) than are common for English readers. The illustrations, received in low resolution for the galley proof, promise to be beautiful in their final version. A nice adaptation of a classic Austen story about the value of pragmatism and being circumspect.

Yup, another in the Manga classics series. I may be hooked. I still have two more in my current to read pile.

I've said it before and will probably say it again: Manga is the perfect format for introducing younger readers to the classics. It's also a good format for us not so young folks who have already read them but who also just want a new more compact way to read them again while enjoying art too!

The art is beautiful. The story is all here -- basically a family full of girls and their soap opera level romances. She loves him, but he's a fool kind of thing.

Highly recommend these if you struggle to enjoy the classics in their original forms, but still want to read them. You may miss out on some minute details or minor character development, but you'll get all of the important aspects of the stories.

My first manga! They did a great job with one of my classic faves! I'll be getting more if these!

I enjoyed reading this manga classic version of Sense and Sensibility and thought the art was well drawn. I plan to look into reading more of these manga classics in the future.

When i saw this on Netgalley i was intrigued as i had never read a classic and never read a manga but i have to say i really enjoyed them both. At the beginning i got a bit confused between the sisters and couldn’t tell who was who in the art work but as i read more of the book it began to get easier. I found that the story had a fats pace and i feel in love with some of the characters more than i fell in love with others. I loved the Captain and really felt his emotions were portrayed well.
I gave this book 4 stars and i cant wait to read more manga classics and I’m really intrigued to read the classic as a novel to see how it differs.

I got a review copy from the publisher, all opinions are my own.

S&S was my first Jane Austen and I have read it many years ago. Some of the story I could remember, other parts I forgot. This made reading the S&S manga adaptation different from P&P and Emma since I can remember every little detail. I can tell you this though: if you vaguely remember the story but don't feel like rereading the original novel (WHY THOUGH?!) this is a good way to tackle that problem. Just like P&P, I love the original novel so in this review I will focus on what I did not enjoy with this adaptation:

1. The language. There are little parts in it that come from the original novel, the rest has been written by Stacy King (story adaptation). I feel that her parts feel more modern that Austen's original words and that makes the original words feel awkward. I had the same problem with P&P.
2. The dramatic poses and roses. This time I won't complain about the tears that are being shed oh so very often because that in fact does happen in the original novel. However, some of the poses and especially the illustrations with all the roses on the background are a bit too much. Austen's novels feel sober and clean and focus a lot on the characters. This one focuses too much on the drama by making the drama even more visual.
3. Some scenes end so sudden that I flipped back a couple of times just to check that I wasn't skipping any pages by accident. I also checked the page numbers to make sure that I had a complete novel. I had. These abrupt endings broke up the flow of the story.

Overall, I enjoyed this one just as much as P&P but I also felt that some of the flaws in P&P were present in this one.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book.

This classic even in Manga was not for me. Although I did still enjoy the artwork, the storyline wasnt for me.

I give this book a 3/5 star. While I loved the artwork, the storyline just didn't hit it out of the park for me. I will still recommend it to everyone who loves classics as well as manga.

HOORAY for being the only format of Sense and Sensibility I could get through. UGH. Not a single movie, not the Sea Monster version, not the original, could keep my attention or keep me from screaming in frustration.

Marianne, you twit! okay, so you don't have to marry Colonel Branson but you could at least not dissolve into crying jags, make public scenes, throw hissy fits, and make a general nuisance of yourself.

Almost everyone in the entire book was insufferable. I know that a very Jane Austen thing to do is to take a theme and hammer it to death, like with Pride and Prejudice, but it just didn't work here. It insults sensitive people and bores the sensible. Yes, we all know a "Marianne" character...but geez this thing was painful.

Also some of my favorite "hot" actors are older than Colonel Brandon, but then Colonel Brandon didn't probably have moisturizer.

Okay so. I enjoyed this as a manga, mostly because the format is so fitted to crazy drama stories and somehow that made it more palatable. (really Willoughby...really? you smarm, then you stink, then you really are a putrid lump of gross, then you try to redeem yourself for a bittersweet ending but just suck some more).

Probably never going to bother reading this in the book form. I like everything else of Jane Austen's, but I draw the line at this.

So cute!! I’ve been wanting to read sense and sensibility for a while now, but just haven’t been in the mood to sit and read something so dense and long
