What I liked:
  • Once I read past 200 or so pages, it’s like the author found the plot and the story actually began. I started to enjoy the characters the romance, and everything else more. Nate and Anastasia are really cute. I enjoyed how they supported each other and their character growth, together and as individuals. The hockey team guys are funny and sweet too. I loved their found family dynamics.
- Nate punching Aaron was really satisfying.
  • I’m curious to read Wildfire to see how it compares to this one and I liked the characters enough to continue reading in the Maple Hills book world.
  • The ending was astronomically better than the beginning of the book. Overall, I eventually liked Icebreaker and I could see why it’s popular. There are some aspects that bothered me about it though…
What I disliked:
- Aaron The Asshole sucks and I hate him, especially the way he treated Anastasia.
  • the beginning is a mess. There’s no direction or storyline. The characters are just partying and having sex, talking about sex, or insinuating it. I don’t mind sex scenes and they don’t bother me. However, they don’t need to be so frequent and in every moment the main characters are together. It was just too much in one book. That’s something that I don’t like about adult romance books.
  • British phrases in a book set in the USA and the characters are American? So weird. I guess it could be the quirky thing that the author writes but it seemed so odd and out of place to me.
  • The book is written in dual pov, which I usually prefer and love, but it did feel repetitive at times in this one.

I didn’t really see where the plot was going. Like it to me was just a figure skater and a hockey player having sex the whole book except for the last few chapters. But even then I thought it was dense and hard to have interest in

If at least 100 pages of sex and partying were cut out, maybe this could've been a decent romance. There were actually some interesting plotpoints and the love interest was not toxic at all, which is probably the reason I actually finished this one. It feels very juvenile and I'm obviously too old to read college romances, even though I'm only 25.

Also, I hated the epilogue so much, I don't understand why romance authors think this always has to be a happily ever after, even when the character actually expressed they don't want it earlier in the book.

“The only time I ever want to see a grown man on his knees in front of me, Nate, is when his face is between my legs. So no, I don’t want you to beg me.“

This was an amazing read which I would have devoured in three days if I was not planning to go on a trip. I was able to finish it in Japan and happy to find out why it’s a popular booktok/bookstagram read! It did not disappoint because I was laughing, swooning, learning and falling in love with how Anastasia and Nathan are as a couple. A match-made in heaven, definitely.

Must be something about an enemies to lover that makes me root for them so much more. All the banters and especially when their friends (specifically the roommates) join in on the funny moments. You can’t help but be jealous of their friendship that will for sure go on for years. Also, the author is out there cooking a book specially for Henry, our bb!

The sexual content was also on point. Compared to erotica books out there, this is mild. Hannah balanced out the smutty scenes with the non-smutty scenes perfectly. The smut scenes were just the right amount of details and to be honest, not really the plot. It’s literally there to spice it up so much which I’m sure I’m not the only one who loved it.

10/10 will recommend to people who’s looking for a good book with smut content.

Obsessed with this!! Nate and Anastasia have my whole heart <3

Theirs is such a healthy and mature relationship — they talk about their issues, they get over fights/missteps and trust eachother in most things.

The author brings us an unusual take on iceskating romance because Anastasia's partner is an absolute dick, so she falls for the guy he hates instead! You go girl

I would like to say I loved the supporting cast but honestly, expect for Robbie, Henry and Lola I couldn't keep any of them or their stories straight, hopefully that will become better as the series goes on.

Imo the third-act fight was blown out of proportion and I hate to be that person but I was on Nate's side! Still, it was handled maturely, I'll give them that.

The spice was *chef's kiss*. Should not have been in company listening to this.

It's refreshing to see two main characters in competive sports,
and to see the subjects of therary and eating disorders tackled within the frame of romance
, but it felt the author wanted to cram too much into one novel - it could have been about 20.000 - 40.000 words shorter, with some of the themes used in other installments of this series.

Liked the secondary characters
yes, even Aaron, every story needs a villain
, hope to see some of them back.
