If one trope and ~100 pages were removed, this book might have been at least 4.5 stars for me. The first half was near perfection.

I may be biased when it comes to hockey romances now, but I absolutely loved this book!! Stassie & Nate are just the cutest! And they are a real power couple! I also loved all the side characters (besides Aaron obvs 😂) Lola, Robbie, Henry, JJ, just all of them! The support they show one another is incredible! I can’t wait for Russ & Henry’s stories, & I hope there’s more after that!

the prose was amateurish and i spotted at least one grammatical mistake that would've been caught by an editor. nate is a gary stu (but he IS pretty chill, so I'll allow it).

one thing i cannot wrap my brain around is a) how anastasia was like "la di da, i'm going to go out in the snow and have a snow white moment!" when she's apparently camped in snowqualmie pass, b) how nate had enough time to drive back to the mansion and beat the paramedics there - then how anastasia didn't have to go through rehab / otherwise be severely injured on account of her DROWNING, and c) why the author chose to make up some names but not others.

the sex is very detailed but it's not actually sexy. there are things that should be discussed on the page that were not - ie facefucking, dom/sub, spanking. relatedly the accidental pregnancy at the end sucked + i'm not entirely sure how anastasia managed to get pregnant when the birth control she's on stops ovulation (which leaves the question as to what kind she's on for me) so it's more likely she would've had an ectopic pregnancy imo.

additionally i don't think the plot point between nate and his dad was followed up on very well once nate has that epiphany about his father's humanity. like, what happens there? do they reconcile? is it a holiday visit kind of thing?

i do think that the writer can really *write.* she's got It. but this book would've benefited from a second pair of eyes at minimum.

The story has a lot of lovable characters- and a few that aren’t so much! Our two main characters have a lot of depth to them, which I really appreciated. It kept this spicy read from being only fluff. Our main girl especially puts a lot of effort into her mental health, which I found refreshing. Even our side characters have great personalities and definitely leaves space for this book to expand into a series (maybe it is a series???) about the other hockey players on the team.

While one of the first books I had ever read in English (disregarding digital media), I could tell this was under my reading comprehension. Too simple minded for a teenager, too perverted for a child.
