Fabulous and useful!
I love Banner's YouTube channel, so buying her book was a no-brainer. I love the historical lens through which everything is illustrated, but don't let that stop you from reading the book if that's not something you're interested in. There's plenty of tips for and information about synthetic fabrics and methods. I also greatly enjoyed the little bits of philosophy about sustainable living she explores (mostly in the introduction and conclusion) -- she puts some of my thoughts into much better words that I could!

So useful for the basics of sewing. It covers materials, stitches and alterations and are easy to understand with pictures. These are the essentials and are very helpful for people like me who have never been taught properly before. Just generally, I love the aesthetics of the book and it is very helpful to reference while sewing that I've already used in regards to fabrics.

This was definitely a cool read and was more interesting and less dry than I thought it would be. As much as I love Bernadette Banner and her channel I did see this book a bit as a textbook but because I was interested enough and had enough foundational knowledge going in about seeing it was actually really engaging and fascinating and I read it pretty fast. I’m not a hand sewer by and standard but I loved learning about how using, buying, and maintaining clothing can make us more sustainable and conscious about our consumption. There is a lot here that is adaptable to machine sewing and just the mindset alone about viewing clothing as something that is very intentional to make it long lasting is definitely sticking with me. I also love the idea that if the apocalypse did happen and all sewing machines disappeared I’d have this hand reference book to help me out.
