I rarely say I dislike a book, but this was one of the worst I have ever read. I only gave it 0.5 stars on the basis that there was a few good lines throughout the book that resonated with me, but on a whole, it was triggering, bordering on the glorification of several touchy subjects.

Rooney might have been attempting to connect the intricacies of human interactions between Connell and Marianne, but they come off a grotesque and idealized. The depiction of Marianne eating and the descriptions of how she is practically starving herself on purpose are deeply upsetting and probably should not be read by anyone who suffers from an eating disorder. Like wise, those who suffer from any form of sexual abuse, harassments, or trauma will most like not find this book enjoyable due to the way Rooney weaves the issue into the fabric of her characters. There is a distinct difference between kinky sex and glorifying abuse as a form of kink, and Rooney fails to find the difference between the two.

Very straight forward writing but beautiful quotes throughout. Really enjoyed reading about Marianne and Connell’s relationship. Really resonated with me and a book I imagine I won’t forget in a hurry

So good! Loved the characters evolution and how they relationship and interaction shifted. Mostly enjoy reading their own thoughts as they were giving some special insights. Need to reread and take notes on my favorite lines.

This isn’t a typical read for me and I found I didn’t much enjoy it. Marianne’s development felt very linear. Most of the novel was miserable and dull.
I’m choosing to believe they’ll reconnect after New York, after Marianne has worked on herself the way Connell did.
I didn’t find much of a reason to watch the Hulu series.

I read this book for the first time somewhen last year. Didn't enjoy it much, thought it was boring and way too sexual & I then even proceeded to sell it.

Out of curiosity though I recently bought it once again, because I've been really into contemporary adult-novel stuff. And wow, I am positively surprised.

Not gonna lie, it's still too sexual for me, but this time I was able to look past that and explore the message behind it, observe the lives of two people unable to go their seperate ways, their lifelines intertwining in unexpected and unforgiving ways.
This book dealt with several topics, some of which include mental illness and modern relationships.
Normal People is wise in a sterile way, unpredictable and really hits you with the reality of life and growing up. Not an easy book, but when is the truth ever easy?

People can really change one another.

Looking forward to reading Beautiful World, Where Are You

Be prepared to relive your most woeful miscommunications you have ever had in a romantic relationship.
