I really enjoyed parts of, and the idea of, this book, but this novella was really only a shell of the meatier story I was hoping for. Also, Strout’s writing is at times stilted and comes off as pretentious.

This took me so long to read because I was reading an advanced digital copy, my kindle died, and I couldn't find the cord. Otherwise I would have read it quickly because like all of Strout's book, it was great. I love her writing, especially when it comes to relationships and how tricky they are.

I loved spiky Olive Kitteridge so much that I am afraid I found Lucy Barton a bland character in comparison.
