nakahara chūya's imagery and transposition of human emotion onto nature was really masterful and had me sitting back in silence several times to process the passage fully. even while translated, the poems felt lyrical when spoken aloud while mostly retaining their original meaning. incredible work on the part of both the author and the translator

I had never read a poetry book up until now, and all I can say is - Chūya was onto something here. My favorites were: Exhaustion, Song of Upbringing, and At the Graveside, primarily because I understood and related to them the most. I'd love to read these poems again when I'm good enough at Japanese, since translations can never convey the original feelings and essence to the same extent.
