What a great story. I felt like there were so many moments where nothing was going on but when things happened they sure amped up to the max. An attack, a battle, a shocking revelation, the action brought everything together. Every character was fantastic and Odessa had me rooting for her right from the beginning.

I really enjoyed this and am excited for the next one. The “monsters” felt like a fresh take on the genre, but I do feel like the author relied on the naïveté of the main character to cover some plot holes / avoid world building. I have more questions than I would want to have by the end of a 500 page book. I also felt like it was more predictable than I wanted it to be. But overall it was a solid, fun, compelling story and I would recommend it to any fantasy fan who likes a slow burn and is craving something a little different from the “fairies and elves” storylines.
