BOOK COMA!!! Total euphoria. I have been trying to write this review since yesterday. I start to type and get sidetracked in the gloriousness of the story. This is the story I have been waiting for. The author has teased us about Aisling and Xaneth in so many books. It was worth the wait. And now I can't stop thinking about them and everything (and there is a lot) that happened to them and around them..

Fear controls Xaneth. That fear had him avoiding Aisling. That fear thrilled me. It was so exciting to see what would happen next. Xaneth is no longer just fae. He is something else now, but what is he? I couldn't help but wonder if there would be more. The anticipation was intense.

Xaneth's powers are beyond compare. There was always something happening within the story that would send chills up my arms or have my heart pounding. Battles were intense and, oh so thrilling to read. The details had my brain working overtime picturing everything. Xaneth might be fighting evil, but he doesn't need to do it alone. With others the battles were even more intense, even more exciting.

Aisling searches for Xaneth. With her thoughts, she can find him. Each time she finds him the sexual tension grows. I was waiting for my reader to catch fire as the tension exploded. Their love might kill them. Their love might save them. The emotions involved were so intense. I could feel the clashing. I thrived on the dance of love. And when he stops fighting the attraction the chemistry is off the charts. I think I need to step out into the snow.

What a great ending to a wonderful group of characters. I will miss the series. Xanneth and Aisling did not disappoint and the tale and some surprising twists. Aisling was strong and Xanneth the tortured hero go through even more obstacles finding the love the both deserve.

It is always bitter sweet when a book series comes to an end. Donna Grant delivers an excellent and epic, good versus evil, final chapter in the tale of the Reaper’s with Dark Alpha’s Fury.

Xaneth is on the verge of facing his biggest challenge and refusing to back down until the evil is gone. Xaneth's powers are intense and he has an instinct on what it is that he needs to do. Yet he has this fear that seems to follow him and everything he does.

Aisling's circumstances, for becoming a Reaper, are some of the most tragic of betrayals. She keeps her heart closed and trust is very hard for her. Aisling is focusing all of her energy on this group of Fae and get rid of this evil plaguing their world. Yet her mind keeps finding Xaneth. It also seems that her heart would like to have him in it as well.

Dark Alpha’s Fury is an action packed, epic and emotional conclusion for Reapers. Questions are answered, battles are fault, emotions are all over the place and two people that should have been together finally get to be together. Donna Grant has a unique way of tying her reader into the story and making them not want to leave. It’s more than just reading, it's an adventure.

I cannot believe the series is finally over. Honestly my eye teared up a bit when I realized there weren’t going to be more characters and story arcs introduced to keep this one alive, but I suppose even the best things must come to an end. Donna Grant has enchanted and terrified fans with her Reaper series through several twists and turns that have taken her teams through life changes we never could have imagined, but now the ultimate battle has come and the final reaper will find out if she will find her HEA with the man who has stolen her heart. Aisling became a Reaper because of one of the most tragic of betrayals and she finds it nearly impossible to trust in others, much less open her heart. She has become more and more obsessed with the strange and deadly Fae that the team once almost lost to madness and death, but when he brought her back from the dead she gave up hunting for him. Xaneth is no longer what he once was, the torture that his psychotic aunt put him through leaving him fundamental changed—wrong—and he knows that he cannot be around Aisling, but at the same time her can’t get her out of his mind. After nearly watching her die in his arms, he knows that he can’t be near her without succumbing to the temptation she represents and putting her in danger. But with the ultimate enemy after them both only by teaming up, along with the rest of the Reapers and Erith, will Aisling and Xaneth have any chance of surviving and defeating her. As they work together to defeat the evil trying to take over the world (no joke, the entire world), they begin to understand that the magnetic draw they feel to one another is not something to be ignored and the strength of their bond might just be what keeps them alive, if they can come to trust it and one another.

Oh man this one was seriously heartbreaking to the point that the tears almost overwhelmed a few times, but I knew that Aisling would find a way to reach Xaneth and make him accept their love. Aisling has lived through so much trauma and pain, truly unimaginable betrayals and psychological torture that she is too strong to break or give up on anything or anyone. She is a smart, sly, strong, and dangerous woman to have at your side but a delay enemy to be facing. I loved seeing her in warrior mode for sure, but the moments that she dropped her shields and revealed her vulnerabilities to Xaneth were amazing to get to experience. Xaneth is truly a broken man, one in need of a strong partner to show him that he isn’t lost or irredeemable, but his strength of conviction and determination to root out evil made him a deadly adversary. Having been there from the beginning to experience glimpses of his pain and torture at the hands of Usaeil we knew most of his fears and concerns, but the depths and lengths he was willing to go to in order to stop the pain were surprising. When he did finally give into his need for Aisling, opening his heart again, we get to see a glimpse of the great male he was before his tortured and I have to say that I loved that part of him as much as the uber-warrior he has become. The passion sparking between these two has been a long time coming and the fire that is finally lit when they stop fighting it so hard is bright and hot enough to burn the entire world to down. As sad as I was to see the end of the series, Aisling and Xaneth’s tory was a beautiful, heartbreaking, and marvelous way to end the series. I never like to see such a great series end so it is bittersweet when I tell you that this was one of my favorite read of the year and I will probably go back and read it again soon just to get to experience it all over again. Aisling and Xaneth’s story is a love story for the ages and Donna is truly the only one that could have brought it to life.

Xaneth’s passion for eradicating evil was only slightly eclipsed by his passion for Aisling.

Xaneth was driven by only one thing ever since he escaped the mental prison his aunt had trapped him in, to eradicate the most evil of all evil. Lena, the powerful leader of the Fae Others, was his main target. Aisling kept following Xaneth around, hoping to become his friend and help him. She was ready to give up on him when her fellow Reapers encouraged her to contact him one last time.

Aisling and Xaneth both had their own demons to battle, but they were a beacon of light for each other in all the darkness and evil, and they couldn’t stay away. Every moment between them was electric with anticipation. Lena continued to be a formidable adversary. But like she herself said, everyone has a weakness, and hers was her unrelenting quest for more power. I was thoroughly enjoying the story and then some of my favourite Reapers and Dragon Kings and their mates showed up and made it even better.

There were many different parts to the final confrontation, each one more exciting than the last. The nail-biting journey took us through each fight until it was all over. And the ending, I did not see that coming. I loved how everyone worked together.

What a spectacular conclusion to a truly gripping series. But it’s not completely over, thank goodness. Donna Grant’s Dark World continues with the second book in the new Skye Druids series. The Reaper series can be read on its own, but I would recommend reading the books in order. And if you have the time, go back and start at the very beginning.

Thank you to the author for providing me with a copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. I love Donna Grants books, I think I've read them all. The characters were very appealing and I always like that she brings characters in from previous stories.

I went into this with relatively high expectations specifically because I was very curious about Xaneth. Admittedly, many of the last books in this series and the Dragon King series have really dragged for me because they've just become so overly heavy with romance and the constant repeating of how perfect the other person is with very little action, that I've come to not expect much excitement. But I thought for sure, with this being the last book in this series, it has to be good. Should have known better considering the disaster that was Con's book. Now, I'm not saying this was bad by any means. Hell, it was definitely better than Con's. But it took almost 60% of the book for anything to really happen. Up until that point it was mostly Aisling trying to convince Xaneth that he was not a monster, and Xaneth (still) fighting everything he felt for Aisling.

I won't say that the huge chunk of the book we get where Xaneth and Aisling finally get close to one another was boring. There are fights and they also fall into a deadly trap of Lena's. But the fights are quick, and the trap really only had one time where anything happened. Interesting, yes. But exciting, no. Hearing about what Xaneth had gone thru for his whole life and during his torture was mildly interesting, but I don't feel that we really learned anything new about him. As for Aisling's past, hers was definitely completely different than any of the others. Nothing at all what I expected. Especially when she had made a point of saying that she was Dark because she had killed people.

The book finally picked up when Xaneth and Reapers decide on a plan and go after Lena. I was kind of surprised in the way that Aisling decided to use herself as bait in the way she did. Her plan actually takes her out of the fight, which is new. What happens to her was neat in a horrible sort of way because it was unique and she didn't even know it was happening to her. Xaneth's fight against Lena was good, not great, but good. I liked what he did to corner her even if he didn't expect her to be able to fight like she could. While Xaneth is fighting her, the Reapers take on her soldiers. And there were a lot of soldiers. One thing that got my attention though was that at one point, Erith simply waved her hand and a bunch of them fell dead. So if she could do that, why did she only do it the one time?

It's no spoiler to say that this group wins the day. It takes a while, but Aisling is also rescued before it was too late for her. But Xaneth makes a stupid, stupid decision that causes serious drama and suffering between him and Aisling. All because he's still determined to wipe out all remnants of the others, wants to find out what he is, and STILL doesn't think he deserves to be/can be around others. Men....

As for what Xaneth has become....I don't really get it. Like, how does any of it have to do with each other?
SpoilerA fae being tortured somehow turns into a hellhound if they carry a specific gene? It doesn't make sense. It's not like he's turned into a dog, and it's not like he was ever actually in Hell. So why?
I'm not saying I don't like it, his power was kind of neat. And it definitely could have been something really stupid. It just didn't make sense.

Overall, this wasn't a bad way to end things. It wasn't at all what I was hoping for, but I'll take it anyway.

A breath-taking conclusion to the Reapers series.  We've waited a long time for Xaneth and Aisling HEA.  It was hard-won, as all good things should be!

Since he escaped his aunt's torture, Xaneth has felt...different.  He can sense evil over great distances and seems to have acquired other talents.  He's a one man army against The Others.  He could easily have help from the Reapers, if he would only stay in one place long enough for them to render assistance.

Aisling is getting tired of following Xaneth, trying to render assistance.  She knows he's hurting and isolating himself because of his new skills.  She feels a connection with Xaneth, one that's not just based on their joint need to take down the Others.

Thankfully their teamwork takes down Lena in suitably brave endeavour.  Lena really was a egomaniacal piece of work!  I loved the trip through the Labyrinth and learning more about Xaneth since his torture.  My heart broke as we learned about how Aisling was betrayed.  She's a warrior of the heart and body!

I really enjoyed the way Xaneth, the Reapers, Dragon Kings and Druids worked so well together.  No one was trying to assert dominance over another faction, even when some are clearly more powerful than others.

I can't wait to see my favourite reapers turn up in further books in the Dark World Universe!
