I can say this author can tell a tale, though I wish this one came with TWs! And what’s funny is I usually never need them. The themes in this book didn’t ’bother’ me, so much as make my eyes roll.
I’m not a huge fan of the ‘second chance’ troupe, and this one hold most of all the aggregates of the troupe. 🙄 All that back n forth was irritating. Wanting to rout for the main couple (as the characters were well written, though I had no sympathy for Layla), but found myself literally rolling my eyes at all the trauma befalling them. By the time we got to the final reveal, I literally laughed out loud. I don’t think that was the intended reaction. Maybe it’s me?!? 🤷🏽♀️

Overall I really enjoyed this story. I went into it thinking it would make me cry, but sadly it did not. It was sad, I don’t want to come off heartless, but maybe since I was prepared it didn’t hit as hard. I enjoyed seeing a raw depiction of sometimes love isn’t enough. I would recommend this.

Why does Danielle Allen got to do me like this? Excuse me—such a good romance and then shatters me into a million pieces. This is a short novella (about 200 pages), but says so much in those few pages. This was the second chance romance complicated love situation, and this book still sits in my head. Wow. Just—Layla and Will felt real and imperfect in such a beautiful way.
