A book about love isn’t just for the child, it’s for the child within that’s experienced live in various ways and maybe never quite got the point of it. It’s the language of love and it’s many dialects. This is a book to share with your children and encourage their questions about the images they’re seeing in connection with the text.

This book shows how love can be found even in the most despairing moments. This was a little unexpected for me, since the beginning seems very sweet and then we get into some dark topics. However, the characters and situations are wonderfully diverse--this book will appeal to many who may not find themselves represented in other picture books. Emotional.

For: readers looking for a book about overcoming tough situations and feeling loved.

Possible red flags: sadness and despair; home fire; working parent & sibling caregiver; domestic disputes; alcoholism; nightmares; scariness on the news; homelessness.

Well, I just love this book. The diversity of the characters represented was fantastic, the message beautiful, and the conversations that could be had will be immense. All ages should pick this up and read, ponder, talk, share!

Personally, I loved this book. It definitely hits that sentimental part of my heart. I'm not sure if many kids would enjoy this read because it's not really a story — it's a poem with pictures. I feel like when people get to an age where they learn to appreciate family and the good little things in life, this book will mean something then. However, it's never too early to start teaching your kids about love, and how they are surrounded by it, even though they may not understand it just yet.

I suggest reading this book at least three or four times before sharing with students to get all of the tears out. It is such a beautiful story, perfect for tough times.

the illustrations truly make this book - all encompassing, all inclusive, intersectional - like love should be. Truly a book for all ages.
