This is one book of the entire "Readers' digest : Select Editions" that I have checked out from library. The language is very simple and so is the style. I had seen this very title (possible another sequel of this book) being translated in a Tamil weekly.
My expectations from this book were high due to below reasons :
a) This author/title was chosen for translation to Tamil in a weekly, it should have been worth it.
b) If this book is in 'Select Editions' again there should be something special in it.
But this book didnt meet my expectations. But that could be coz I dont understand the 'African' background and its speciality that this book involves.

This is a lovely little book that feels more like a series of vignettes that an overall cohesive novel, although there are threads running throughout. I’d be curious to know a native Botswanan’s opinion of the novel, but my from my unknowledgeable eye it seemed respectfully done and lovingly written. Also, shoutout to my Dad, who condescendingly asked, “What’s in Botswana anyway?” when a character in Booksmart was headed there. It feels like this book was written in answer to that question.
The got halfway through this book because it is set up as a series of vignettes, which I enjoy. I wanted to stop reading at the rape scene, because I have trouble enjoying books after that, but pushed through it. Eventually the time came when I could not handle Mma Ramotswe's choices and was no longer interested in her story.

Delightful.
There’s a few dark and emotional themes here, sensitively handled, but overall the book is a well-written highly amusing joy to read.
The world needs more Mma Ramotswes and Mr JLB Matekonis.

This lovely little gem of a book transported me to Africa. Mma Ramotswe is clever, insightful, and funny, the supporting characters are cleverly written so the reader gets some insight into who they are, even if their part on the book is minor. The descriptions of Botswana are beautiful, and the mysteries in the story are pretty clever.
A fun, swift read. Best way to describe this book: sweet.
