Not my favorite book. It definitely feels very based on another culture, but it's also confusing to know whether it's a legitimate depiction of that culture because it is written by an outsider. I'm glad I read it, but I don't think I'll keep up with the series.

I liked it more as the book went on. Very hard for me to get into.
Easy and enjoyable read. Incorporates a lot of African ease/way of life. Good characters- insightful and at times funny. Mma Ramwotse is a great leading lady. Relaxing read.

there is something about certain books that hit you different depending where you are in life.
i tried to read this book when i was younger and in college, and i found it so boring that i put it down around page 120. this time, a few years down the road, a bit of heartbreak and more life experience, i felt that this could potentially be one of those books i'd come back to when i needed a hug to the soul.
precious is charming, honest, strong and kind-natured, just like the woman who gave me this book as a gift, and, strangely enough, has led a similar life to the main character without knowing it. i am just glad i gave it a second chance, because i genuinely adored every second of it.
i'd give it a 5* rating if i could, but i didn't only because i would have liked more mr. j.l.b. matekoni content before the ending, but i suspect i'll see more of him in the next books whenever i end up reading them.

Very sweet book - well written, sensitive, cute and entertaining. It's a fast read and very enjoyable with good character development.
