An absolute classic! A wonderful story and a brilliant way to introduce children to converging plot lines. A lot of people love Edward Tulane but this is even better IMHO.

A tale of sadness and loss that is quite dark at times but never overwhelming for my child.
I love Kate DiCamillo as an author and human!! Her imagination and wording are always so thoughtful. However, I don’t think this is one of her best children’s books. The characters are so lovable and life lessons shine through, but the plot is a bit hard to follow since it’s divided into three “books”. The storyline is trying to be really epic and heroic but fell a bit flat for me.

I always enjoy a modern fairy tale (modern in style, rather than setting in this case) and it was an engaging story. Beautifully illustrated, quite dark in places for a children's book.
I didn't fall in love with it in the same way I did Flora and Ulysses by the same author, but that is a high bar because it's one of my all time favourites!
DiCamillo does choose interesting characters and stories that show different perspectives and I really enjoy that

I very much so enjoyed this book! I was in a reading fog and this pulled me out. I wanted to cry so many times while I was reading because how much I loved the writing style (and how much I related to the characters). It's like a strong breeze of fresh air in the autumn after thr heatwave of summer. (Like the blaze of sun after being trapped in the dungeon, if you will XD )
It's not until the end of the book did I realize that this is the same author of Winn-Dixie and Tiger Rising (both I remember reading in school)
(I don't remember reading Despereaux though... which is strange because the pictures were too familiar)
This will definetly go into my top 5 favorite books
