I started reading this book because I was listening to the audio drama ‘The Royals of Malibu’ which is based on this series. I was tired of waiting for weekly updates and at the time I thought the books would be just like the audio drama (I was wrong). I think I actually prefer the books over the audio drama.

This book definitely became a guilty pleasure because by no means is the drama and the relationships that are portrayed in this book healthy (that’s okay though because not every book needs to be.) There’s a lot of sexism and toxicity book the book is also based in the south so…

This is your typical “good girl x bad boy” romance. That is if you can even classify Ella as a good girl and Reed as a bad boy (aside from trying to ruin Ella’s life before she got to Astor Prep and illegal street fighting Reed really isn’t even that much of a bad boy). Cliches aside this book was so entertaining to me. There were definitely moments where i was like “Ella stand up, have a backbone” but we wouldn’t have our main pairing if she did.

Reading Paper Princess felt like I was just watching a new season of Gossip Girl. The ending of book 1 is pretty similar to how season 1 ended in the audio drama so i wasn’t too rattled, but Reed Royal count your days!!

This book reads like a wattpad story written by a 13 year old, there is no plot, the characters are so unlikable, the amount of slut-shaming and mysoginy and the rape scenes between the fmc and mmc and other people, everything a girl does in this book is for male validation. The fmc forgives everything the boys do to her because they're hot and the hate her for no reason. Also everything that happens in this book is illogical and unrealistic (the mmc character makes his brothers and the whole fucking school hate her like why do you listen to him, the dad basically  kidnapped her and he gives her money to stay in that house also he is a creep (he watches Ella strip and dance for him but then says "oh Steve would be rolling in his grave" and supposedly he likes them young, her mom died and no one noticed like really, another thing her mother's boyfriend tried to sa her when she was twelve, she punched him and almost broke her hand and then he taught how to punch and they became friends like wdym you became friends with your almost rapist and that's not all) ,also the stereotypical characters like the queen and king of the school and the queen bee, the nerds, the bad boys. The mmc also sleeps with Ella when she's on drugs and underage( he previously saved her from being raped but does what he does to her), he treats her like trash the whole book, and the last 100 pages are them fucking and him telling her it's the last time only to do it again. Moreover, wtf was that ending , it was just a plot point made to write the sequel.

Reading this feels like watching reality television. It’s so fake but somehow you can’t stop watching. It’s just basically a wattpad fanfiction. It’s so bad in a good way? Just don’t think about it too much or you’ll find 100 things wrong with it.

Ok. I have never written a review before so I'm sorry if it's hard to understand. BUT. THIS. GODDAMN. BOOK. Mentally scarred me.
The book (and the series) is a literal Wattpad mafia mets the rich bad boy fanfiction and (as someone who used to eat that shit every day) it makes me sick to the core to know that *this* is considered ok to be published. Honestly? It would've been a *great* idea if it kept the "plot", but turned the message from "this is totally ok and not toxic" to "this behaviour is not ok, but everybody can change. Therapy and other professionals are there for you. And if they don't change, leave them. Also, *CONSENT*??? HELLO??? YOU THERE?"
To think that this book went through so many hands before it was published and IT STILL WENT TROUGHT. If someone, anyone, girl, boy, non binary, teen, child, adult or elder reads this review, please know that this kind of behaviour is toxic, not ok and dangerous.

The characters were so flat. The men are all abusers and everyone has like one character trait.

Callum: being drunk
 Reed: anger issues  (+commitment issues)
Sawyer and Sebastian: twins
Gideon: Swimming
Brooke: being Callum's girlfriend
Ella: nOt LiKe oThEr GiRLs (+obsessed with Reed)

Not only the characters are horrible but the writing is just so bad too...

The main character has internalized misogyny and constantly slut shames other girls. The main love interest is a brat and mean for no apparent reason. The love interest's brother harasses the mc and the love interest laughs it off. This book was terrible but I can proudly admit that I enjoyed it because I love trashy romance book and this one is as trashy as they come. The love story was lacking but it was a fun read and it got me out of a reading slump and for that I am thankful. Have fun reading!<3
