I don't know how to feel about Alexander Dumas anymore. I fell in love with him with the three musketeers, and one of my favorite books of all time is the count of Montecristo, right behind the Quijote. But then I read some anthology of stories of his and it was one of the few books I couldn't finish, it was awful, convoluted and boring. Maybe that was the first things he wrote, I don't know.
And then I read this! And looove it! I was devouring every page, I wanted to know what happens to Marguerite and the King of Navarre!!!! I loved the intrigue and secret passages and people listening through the doors. And it ended. And God, how it sucked. It was like the end of Lost, the TV show. It was so anticlimactic, I thought there was a chapter missing.
I don't know why, if he's a classic writer, he still plays with my feelings. Worst than GRRM.
