Paolini definitely could have used an editor, he meanders needlessly and tends to fixate on the unnecessary. The 750 page book could have easily been ~500 with a few snips here an there. I'll be a little generous and say some of his homages to other works of fiction were also fairly blatant (a city called Gil'Ead taken over by the evil empire for example). The first half of the book was a bit of a slog, but around 2/3rds of the way through, it picked up and got more interesting. Points for adding a synopsis of the previous books at the beginning!

This is a high fantasy book with lots of battles and sword fights. The battles have some graphic and gorey descriptions. The same goes for some of the meals that Sapphira, the dragon eats. There is also racial tension between the humans and other non-human groups which gets violent at times. There is a lot of deaths and injury to main and side characters.
