Great book, with a great message and a sad ending.

Found it again! It was behind one of my radiators and I don't know how either.

It's such a good book. I like the juxtaposition of the ideas of the 'civilized' world and 'The Savage', showing us that it's not always good vs. evil or black and white.

This was a really good introduction to the novel by Aldous Huxley. I had originally bought this with the intent to review this with a book group, but that did not work out. This is one of my favorite novels and may be fitting to read during the political times in which we live. The Sparknotes guide compares the similarities between this and George Orwell's 1984. Dystopias seem to be the trendy topic in reading as we are again facing up to a fascist world leadership that believes the little people have too much and wants to control access to thought. While the world we live in right now is not about consuming for consuming's sake as Huxley's. There is talk about raising tariffs to control another country which will lead to a shortage of goods and higher prices. Access to news media that is objective is being denied with the talk about Fake News everywhere one tries to find information. It may only be a matter of time before books are censored if we do not watch ourselves. While some people may like this it is never a good idea to limit anyone's access to knowledge. The world is not always pleasant, there are rules to follow, but blind consumerism for the sake only of pleasure does not lead to happiness. Nor does denying a person knowledge make them happy.

I like a good dystopian story, and this is one of the older ones which I had never read. I wouldn't say it's "fun" to read, but I'm glad to have read it, it's as relevant as ever.

I have mixed feelings on this book: the first hundred pages were a good three star read, the last fourty or so were definite five stars.

This book brings up very interesting questions on the topic of happiness and freedom - which one is more important. The topic of solitude, autonomy and unhappinessare also discussed. I appreciated this a lot and am still pondering some of the topics.

Overall, a very enjoyable read.

Well...
First time I've read this. Interesting. Better than I expected.
Also not as good as I expected :-D I'm not too fond of Aldous Huxley's writing style.
I also experience it as pretty racist.
I don't understand John's thinking.
