I am absolutely crying over the end of this book

Midnight With the Devil was a pleasant surprise. I enjoyed the concept of a personified devil living in a modern world and reading about how other angels would be involved. The characters and romance would have been better if they were more developed, but I think given how short the novel is, the author was able to achieve what she wanted to convey. There could've been a better way to show how Lucien was changing since the croucher demons didn't really add much to the story and it distracted from the plot. Diana could have been a bit more developed, but at least her main traits of selflessness and kindness were portrayed well. The sex scenes could also be a bit steamier since Lucien promised to fulfill Diana's darkest fantasies, but they weren't anything special. This was a still a fun and entertaining read.

A solid idea with a lackluster execution. The story is surprisingly light considering the subject matter - not so light as to be considered a RomCom, but pretty light nonetheless. That, I could've been okay with, but from start to finish, I couldn't escape the similarities to the television show. The storyline and characters are more simplistic than the show, but the sexy playboy persona, the deal maker, a good-hearted human who may be Lucian's downfall or saviour, depending on how you look at it, the nightclub - it's all there. All of that aside, I didn't find these characters particularly likable, and the story just didn't pull me in. It's a fairly quick read, so I did finish it, but it isn't something that I would reach for again or that I would think of to recommend.

Diana's Father is dying.
The gates of hell are weakening.
Lucifer needs to find a pure soul to corrupt in order to fix them and avoid Demons and other demons from escaping the depths of hell to cause havoc on earth.
Diana has a pure soul, and Lucifer knows it. He also knows that her current situation makes her desperate. She is willing to do anything it takes to save her father's life, even if that means selling her soul to the devil himself.

I deliberately chose not to read too much of the description of this book. I wanted to go in knowing next to nothing so that I could make my own mind up about the book as I read along. The book itself is very easy to read, and flows at a wonderful pace. However throughout the book there were words missing from sentences, leaving them incomplete, and there were a few spelling mistakes too, but nothing major. The first 90% of the book was incredible. I was completely engrossed by Diana and the Devil's story. But. the last ten percent did let me down. There were so many different directions the ending of this stand alone could have taken, I confess I was sorely disappointed by what did happen, it ended on rather a dull note (it did still manage to pull a few tears from me though.) I just think there's much more of this story to tell. regardless of that, I did still thoroughly enjoy reading this book! and I did recommend it to my best friend who is obsessed with paranormal romance.

Similar forced proximity "deal" as in A Court of Mist and Fury, but was barely "forced" and very pointless. The smut scenes were trash. As well as the plot. The "twist" at the end made no sense.

Not a bad romance read (read: cliche, but cute), but not the sinfully wicked story I was expecting based on the synopsis and the recommendations.

Spoilers beyond this point...

Lucien/Lucifer is supposed to be this very experienced, very dominating sexual powerhouse and while it was hinted at and promised in the beginning, the explicit scenes were kind of lackluster. I liked the “the devil isn’t a bad guy” angle the author worked, I generally enjoy stories where the bad guy isn’t bad. But the ending felt like a very rushed wrap up, and I read cliche romance novels FOR the cliche, but the whole your life for hers deal with god was too much.

And so many questions unanswered!! Andras was okay with just letting his boss leave him all the shit he had to deal with in hell? Does the “Lucifer gone from everyone’s mind” change a ton of shit, other than how Amara and Diana become friends? Does Jimiel stay in Diana’s class, if she even finishes school?

So paranormal is not usually my cuppa but I really enjoyed this. I thought it was a really interesting and unique take on a deal with the Devil type trope. I fell a bit in love with Lucien as he struggled with his fall from grace and subsequently as he re-found his humanity as he fell for Diana. I thought he made a great and complex anti-hero, plus can’t go wrong with a literal sexy Devil. I also thought Diana made a good heroine, her “pure-ness” was done well without going overboard with innocence. My only gripe was it was on the short side, the story could’ve been flushed out a bit more the ending especially. I also wished they would have retained their memories at the end, it seems like almost a waste that the main characters have no recollection of the adventure we went with them on. But with that being said I unexpectedly really like this and it totally got me out of my book slump.
