This book just added to the heartbreak that were the trilogy.
As a dystopian post apocalyptic story lover, this series always felt like a gift to me.
Similar to the main trilogy i loved this prequel too. I might have even enjoyed it more than scorch trials & death cure. I say that because to me the characters in the story are just as precious (or maybe 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚) as the plot itself. So even if there were things about the plot that were left unexplained, that might never be explained, I still got so much more insight on the characters' past and childhood memories. The frustration, confusion, isolation and loneliness that they might have felt was portrayed so well. Quite similar to a lot of other stories, kids being brainwashed to comply, manipulated and used for a "greater good". James Dashner is 𝙨𝙤 𝙜𝙤𝙤𝙙 at writing emotional atmospheres and making you understand the character motivations 😭
We even get to understand Teresa more, see what life circumstances lead her into making the tough but morally questionable choices that she made. For the first time i understood Thomas' affections towards her. And Newt's frustrations that eventually lead him to selfharm was also so fucking realistic...

Off to read Crank Palace and cry myself to sleep.
I can't wait enough for his next book. I better get to read about Minho and Thomas' grandkids! 🤧
