Tried so hard to persevere with this book but having reached the halfway point I just couldn’t muster any enthusiasm to plough on. I found it slow, dull and kept losing track of all the characters

From north London and recognised a lot of the details etc - but god it was drawn out. Didn’t care enough about the inevitable downfall of the upper class characters. And some of the rude boy stereotypes were a stretch. Listened to the audio, not sure I would have made it through the text.

A fantastic modern epic with that satisfying slow start as you accumulate characters and relationships, and a satisfying ending as stories and tensions resolve. Mostly, though, I love a book like this for the middle, when you can just spend time with a set of people and places that you know, and enjoy and are curious about. I wish I had ten novels like this to read every year.
