4.25 - Wow this book was unlike anything I’ve read or experienced and I’m not even sure why. On paper, the plot isn’t too hard to convey but the experience is what was the most enticing. Somehow the prose conveyed the characters well enough that early on in the book, I felt emotionally connected to them. That’s something I can really appreciate and applaud. This also felt very cinematic in that the words were easily translated into engrossing imagery. Now, not everything about this was perfect for me. I found that a lot more could’ve happened at the end in terms of answering some questions and a better look into the dynamic of Carolyn and Steve so that what happened isn’t as ambiguous (considering this is a stand alone piece). Aside from the ending, there were some confusing moments here and there and some decisions with characters that I believe could’ve happened differently. All in all, I would read this again and I probably will. It was a ride I wasn’t ready for but enjoyed nonetheless; I highly recommend it to those looking to read something unique and all-encompassing.

To start off with my likes of the book: I love the story! It's super interesting and made a lot of turns I wasn't expecting. The character work for *most* of the characters felt really well done.
For the dislikes though... there were many times when I was caught off guard by how Scott wrote some of the characters. Some of the women felt over-sexualized and there was one side character that was very... VERY over-done. Super dudebro, 'I'm-a-hero-and-everyone-knows' kinda guy. Not my favorite type of characters or character writing.
But! The story was very intriguing so the downsides were able to be looked past to get to the good parts.
Also, having an awareness of how present Israeli media is in US culture is awful, out of EVERY military jacket... why did David have to wearing an IsNotReal military jacket ): but David was awful anyway so if the jacket fits?
