I like how it would briefly talk about minor characters as well. Wish we found out what happened to the 2 sisters. Think I would’ve had a hard time reading the print version so the audiobook was good!

What an epic, beautiful story! A delicately told history of the colonized Korean experience in Japan, this book has fully-formed characters that stay with you after the final page. Many of the characters’ experiences with discrimination, racism, and bias are direct parallels to the modern immigrant/minority experience in western societies. My only complaint is that the second half of the book felt rushed; I wish I’d gotten to know Noa’s children’s lives in the same way as Solomon’s. But overall, a really excellent book!

UPDATE: the TV series is so, SO beautiful!! Watch it!

4.5 ✨

Really interesting although some characters are difficult to get attached to because they’re only in the story for a short time. The last bit of the book feels a bit dragged out though

It was a beautifully written story that I just couldn’t put down. Two-thirds of it were kept at a great pace, but I was a bit disappointed that the last third had a lot of jumping in time, I would’ve liked to read more.
