The way I describe this book to anyone who hasn’t read it is: “Ocean’s Eleven” set in Imperial Europe, with one of the most unique magic systems I’ve ever read.
Each character is diverse and interesting enough that I didn’t dread when a chapter changed perspectives like I do with other books. Leigh Bardugo successfully balanced a larger cast of characters and made sure each got enough time devoted to them to further the book’s plot and subplots while ensuring there were no redundancies.
After reading “Six of Crows,” I read everything else in the Grishaverse because I became ~obsessed~ and still believe that this book is Bardugo’s most well written and most compelling book.
Minor: Addiction, Drug use, Violence, Blood, Trafficking, Murder, Alcohol, and War

I will not be sharing my ranking of the crows publicly because I did that with my friends and they were ready to CANCEL me. Maybe it’s due to the fact that I haven’t read Crooked Kingdom so I don’t have a fully-formed opinion yet. Just know that if you don’t like Matthias, you can click that unfollow button. I don’t need you here and I don’t claim your negative energy.
I’m very excited to learn more about Wylan in the next book. I was sad there weren’t any Wylan chapters in SOC, especially because everyone kept saying how much I was going to love him. I’ve been told CK starts with a Wylan POV though!
Although I’m curious about Wylan, I am absolutely terrified to read Crooked Kingdom. I’ve heard some stuff. I’ve seen some spoilers. And let’s just say that I’m not ready yet to be experiencing that kind of pain right now.
Obviously, I had to rate this book 5 stars. It was everything that I wanted it to be and more, although it did take me a surprisingly long time to get into. I thought with Dutch being my native language and having read and watched Shadow and Bone, I would have been a BIT prepared to start SOC but..nope. Leigh just throws you in the deep end. The first 100 pages seemed like a whole other language to me and I was already preparing a speech to my friends to deeply apologise for not understanding the SOC hype.
But after that 100th page, things just clicked and I was absolutely obsessed. I adored the characters, the plot, AND I THINK I UNDERSTOOD THE ICE COURT HEIST?
So, take it from a dumb person like me. KEEP READING! Don’t give up on this book because it’s literally incredible. I promise you it’s worth it.
