I really liked this book and the whole fandom including things on Pinterest. It just was a bit long compared to what I normally read but I did like it.

Convoluted plot lines that even the reader doesn't understand until all is said and done. Never too predictable, and we love some good bisexual tension ;)

"I'm a business man," he'd told her. "No more, no less. " "You're a thief, Kaz." "Isn't that what I just said?"

this book surprised me. it was an incredible read, full of sharp retorts, unlikely alliances and bravery that comes only when you have nothing to lose. I usually find it hard to get into the world that a fantasy novel creates but this book made it so easy to be entranced by the Grisha and the Fjerdans and the thieves and everyone else. I understand why there's a show related to this series now that I've read this. can't wait to read the next book in this duology. would highly recommend!

I’m not sure that I was exactly the right audience for this book as I had to imagine the characters about 10 years older to find it believable. I also found the worldbuilding of each country being loosely based on real countries to be lazy at best and loosely offensive at worst. That said, I like the plot well enough, especially towards the end. All the twists were super effective and I will be reading the sequel

Oh my god I finally read this book and I love that so much I gave it 4.75 stars because of the very confusing world building. After a while, I started figuring out how everything works or at least that it doesn’t matter that much and I don’t have to remember every single name, but in the beginning was quite something.
I am in love with every main character, especially Inej and well every crow and I love the little romance going on. If you know you know, I never like Matthias, though, I never did. Nina can do so much better!!
I love the ice court heist!! It was so interesting and funny, but I have no idea how to imagine that and that’s why started watching the show Shadow and bone. But I’m honestly so disappointed because first of all I didn’t like the shadow and bone triology, and the show is mainly about that, and I only love the the crows. Also, the show was not like any of the books and that make me really mad. I just wanna watch the heist not some other random mission. Anyways I need to read a different genre now, but I’ll come back for Crooked kingdom!

So, I initially avoided giving into the hype over this book for a couple reasons; I'm not super into the YA genre anymore, and I refuse to engage with popular media until it's borderline irrelevant. That might've been a misjudgment. I really enjoyed this! I liked it as a whole--the characters, worldbuilding, relationships, pacing. As a disabled person, I especially appreciated Kaz. The only thing I kept getting mildly tripped up by was how young everybody was; they're all so jaded and experienced but they're also all teenagers. On the Watsonian level, I guess it could be explained by a combination of trauma and class--can't really have an unscarred childhood/adolescence when you're out there fighting for your life. On the Doyleist level, I understand that that's just the genre, and I'm probably just too old to just take it without question.

The things Men do when they think no one is looking. Shame holds  more vale than con ever can.

Because our crime is existing. Our crime is what we are.

This book took a while to get me hooked, but once I was hooked, I WAS HOOKED. The characters make this book. It’s hard to pick a favorite character. I can’t wait to read the next one.
