Kitsune, Hellhound, Incubus...oh my!

Plot: Mara is invited to enroll at Wyldthorn Academy a college for Scions, by Nora and Lawrence an elf and a vampire working at the academy. As soon as she arrives she meets the four Seasons' Princes and is immediately attracted to them, and they have various feelings for her. She learns more about her own Lineage as a Kitsune and about the different Season's Courts. At the end of the month, it is a big deal for each student who isn't already in a season to choose one. There are things at play that only Nora seems to know and the Princes and Mara slowly begin to uncover them.

Thoughts: I really liked how Shear didn't stick with typical romance fantasy creatures. There are vampires and elves, incubus and shifters, but there are also Norse descendants, Hellhounds, Ferrymen (Greek descendants from Charon), Hydra, Nephilim, and of course Kitsune! I enjoyed the different aspects of the Seasons, how they each reflected certain traits but not ones that would necessarily be obvious but makes sense when you think about it. I also enjoyed how Mara didn't fall head over heels for the Princes, she was attracted and intrigued but also when felt unwanted was like "ok, that's fine I got other things to deal with" and didn't wallow in a pity party. All the characters seem normal too, they have normal reactions to events, not blind acceptance or refusal. There is curiosity amongst the Princes because of Nora and there is a bit of disbelief and doubt from Mara, because she assumed she wasn't a Scion, but knows it's a possibility.
I thought it was going to be predictable but there were pleasant surprises in the story that make it it's own.
The spicy scenes at first seemed a bit rushed to me like they are throwing it in just because it needs to be there, but that isn't quite right. They do make sense and are appropriate to the story and the speed of the plot.
The way Shear wrote the scenes with Mara in her shifted form was beautiful, I could picture the Kitsune running through the woods and the joy and beauty of the moment, definitely my favorite parts.
There are still a lot of questions to be answered and puzzles to sort out. This is a great start to a series I think is going to be amazing! I can't wait for what comes next!
