This was book #57 for Romanceopoly 2020.

Pack: Sun
Square: Coffee Shop
Challenge:

Omg! This book is so good. It is a departure from Hunting’s usual romcoms but no less enjoyable. I hope that some of the secondary characters get their own stories in the future.

I really enjoyed the emotion that I felt with these characters in this book. Kodiak and Lavender's souls were interwoven their entire lives but I'm happy that they were able to find their own strength and were eventually able to love each other the way they were meant. I also love the fierce protectiveness of Lavender's brothers and appreciated that during the book, River was able to find himself and own who he is.

The enemies to lovers was so over the top in this book and the transition between enemies to lovers was so rushed.

This book had me all over the place. These characters felt too angsty and needy for me. As someone who suffers from severe anxiety and childhood drama I could relate to their struggles, but once they got older it seemed like they’d never grow out of their issues. This book was only one sided for the first 65% with the heroine and hero hardly talking besides him being an ass.

Also, all of the “puck bunny” shaming really got under my nerves. The MC would talk about double standards between her and her male family members but would harshly judge other girls. Sure the main mean girl Bethany was an ass, but her personality sucked not her choice on how much sex she wanted to have when guys were willing to partake. That stuff just really gets under my nerves in sports romances because it’s something I feel we should move on from.

Overall, this book is okay. It has its moments where I was very invested, but near the middle everything just sped up so fast and I felt like I didn’t learn anything about their relationship as lovers. I didn’t finish all of the Pucked series because of the sexism either, but I was hoping this would be better and it’s honestly what made this book worse for me.

Overall: 2.75
