What a journey! Great storytelling. Now I want to read more books like this. It reminds me of the stories my grandma would share from her life. Women aren’t all little waifs, at any point in time and history. What a wild ride.

A slow start shouldn't put you off, the whole book is worth it.

I enjoyed the book, but I absolutely loved the ending... Is it perfect? No. But it was oh so satisfying!

It was so much fun reading this during the Olympics! I was a little annoyed when I'd get into her story, and then got jolted back to present time. All in all, though, a very good book!

I was going to give this book 3 (maybe 3.5) stars through the first half, but I was pleasantly surprised by the ending and increased my rating. The writing and style are not particularly sophisticated, but I was content to glide through a story that combined two of my favorite topics - swimming (which is not a common fiction topic) and World War II. As the book went on, however, the treatment of each issue grew deeper, and the "twist" was not the one I expected!
