Didn't find the characterization to be the best, especially when wanting smart characters to be oblivious to obvious things
Didn't fancy the last stretch.
I loved the reveal, where we are made to believe it's Michael then Dean then the killer is finally revealed. But then Locke just stands and tells us everything. Interesting backstory but an anti climatic reveal.
Didn't need the love triangle at all, like, not even in the slightest. Although I did find Michael and Cassie's last convo cute.
Overall nice story, not too bogged down or unnecessarily convoluted.

Jennifer Lynn Barnes has this knack for creating love triangles where I cannot guess who she will pick and I am rooting for both options. JLB, throuple endgame when?

Anyway, the romance is really the least of this book. The Naturals was so fun, so fast, and so goddamn gruesome. Insane to market this as a YA just because it involves 17 year olds bc this book has some of the grisliest descriptions of murder victims and serial killer techniques I’ve ever read. Just brutal.

Would love for the story and characters to be fleshed out just a hint more, but overall this went down so easily and I couldn’t stop listening. The revelation and twists were a good time. Just fast, brainless YA serial killer profiling fun. I will be reading the follow ups.

cassie is approached by michael in the diner that she works at. he gives her a business card for an fbi agent. upon meeting with him, he informs her of a special program, the naturals. he wants her to join, because he believes that she will fit right in. the naturals program is made of teenagers that have special skills that make them valuable to the fbi for finding criminals

i really liked this book. it gave all the criminal minds vibes (criminal minds girlie over here) and i LOVED it! some of the characters in the naturals give the same vibes as some of the characters from criminal minds, which was really cool

i guessed several things, but not in their entirety. this book was really suspenseful at times & is written so well. this was a really quick read and i’m excited to dive into the rest of the series

Overall, I really enjoyed this book as an intro to the YA mystery/thriller genre. The plot was fast paced enough for me to keep reading and the book was easy to get through. Definitely gives me Criminal Minds vibes if you're interested in that.

I love mysteries and trying to guess who did it and how. I did not guess this killer! Rather everyone but them so JLB got me! Excited to read on in the next book!
