Great story about power in a land where the people are necessary, but irrelevant.

I really liked this book, Carey's writing really reminded me of Cormac McCarthy. Peter Carey was inspired to write this novel after reading about a letter the real Ned Kelly wrote before his death. So the book is in a form of a letter written to Kelly's daughter. It inspired me to research the real [b:Ned Kelly|110090|True History of the Kelly Gang A Novel|Peter Carey|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171631392s/110090.jpg|2134852] and the Kelly Gang.

Peter Carey is an adjectival genius.

very enjoyable. I completely got swept away in this "true" history. I found myself feeling quite sorry for this apparently blood thirsty thieving cove. Bloody cops.

It takes a while to get used to the the style of writing in this novel. There is very little grammar and lots and lots of run on sentences! However, the style is perfectly suited to the hero of the book. Good pacing and plot.
