Nobody’s doing it like Agatha these days

Remember kids, have a healthy distrust of ambition!!

This was the first book I’ve read by Agatha Christie. I liked it! It definitely wasn’t what I was expecting and I’ll be honest, the end at the end did get me. I’m only scoring it a 3.75 because I did feel that it was a little slow to get in to.

I know it's historic but I was not expect the G slur like 100 times in the first 2 chapters. It was a lot.

I wasn't sure if I was enjoying this to begin with but luckily I had a better experience with the second half. Christie's writing is brilliant as usual and her characterisation in this is particularly good. I accidently spoiled myself for the ending and I would've enjoyed it a little more had I not known what was coming, however I could still appreciate the mastery in setting it all up.

Slow burn plot with a mindfuck ending. Not extraordinary, but definitely surprising, did not see that coming!
The end reminded me a lot of Crimson Peak vibes, although with the main character here being both the murderer and the one longing for redemption. And there’s not really any happy ending for anyone, of course. Very interesting even if tragic.
