I have been gun-shy of most recent YA books because they have felt so very predictable to me. The would be a chaste but intense insta-love triangle between our female protagonist and a dark, broody young man who has a good heart and a nice, sweet young man with a good heart. Sigh.
I am thrilled that The Night Will Find Us has none of that. The book starts with a group of six friends who are going into their senior year who go into the woods for a camping weekend. The is a dynamic and complicated group, bu there are no love triangles.
It was interesting read that kept me interested.

This is a survival story full of twists and turns. At some point, I just wanted the book to end just because it felt like the main characters couldn’t catch a break. Also, morality isn’t super clear here like in many horror stories- the protagonists don’t follow a predictable moral compass. There are certain actions that should clearly make you the bad guy, but I suppose there’s bad and there’s evil, nightmarish bad. There’s a lot of action and description- and at some point even readers get tired of an endless forest- but the book is short enough so that the nature saturation is tolerable.

I like the bits of cosmic horror a lot.

3.5 this started off great. I really enjoyed the various characters and the complex relationships and their individual struggles. The setting was dark, creepy and claustrophobic. My only issue is that I feel it could have been further developed. It became slightly repetitive towards the end and the ending itself a little rushed without any satisfactory explanations for the deeper parts of the story. I still really enjoyed it and the audiobook was well narrated. I fell in love with the character of Parker (the voice was amazing!)

This is a book I've been wanting to read for awhile. It moved quickly with supernatural forces, but I always kinda wish people left things a little more vague. When it's vague it's spookier. When you give something a back story you ruin the fear.
