This novel started off with a bang, but then the story began to kind of dwindle as it seemed to slow down. I am still not sure how I feel about the ending but overall this was a good mystery.

***I received an eARC from NETGALLEY***

I really enjoyed this. Just uh... don't read it at bedtime. It becomes impossible to put down, and had this lady's 10pm bedtime pushed back to after 1am by the time my heart stopped racing.

I loved this legal thriller set in the gritty tenderloin district. You saw the best and worst of men in this fantastic read. I could not put it down. The case was enthralling and the action/danger seemed real and close to home. I recommend this book highly. Thanks to NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my review.

Pros
+ I love legal thrillers where the main character is a defense attorney rather than a prosecutor.
+ Excellent use of multiple POVs

Cons
- Repeated comments from the main character and others that the media is too harsh on the Catholic Church and priests. Felt like the author had an axe to grind and was roping the reader into it.
- The case against Father Thomas Martin never really seems solid so his exoneration felt too easy.

Eh.. it was okay. It tried to steer away from your typical thriller but failed. Everything was predictable and every character had a dark past to explain why they are the way they are. Nothing had me at the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. It was okay, not great.

Once I read the acknowledgements at the back of the book and saw that this book was actually written in the early 1990's, I gave it an extra star. The book is really not up to this author's standards, but I understand it's an early work that he re-worked and just released so it gets a star for a good story, written in the style of a young, new author.
