An engaging continuation of the series but not quite as good as the first. Does a good job of exploring the complex emotions of war and is appropriately action packed. 
The poetry was clever and I thought

Sort of a YA Red Dawn. The first one was better, as is common in series, but this one had some good exploration of the psychological impact of war and death. Read this as a teenager, nice to see it still holds up.

This series really has me hooked. I love all of the very well drawn characters and the writing is superb. The action and drama never lets up as the outlawed teens find themselves in increasingly impossible situations. They get braver and braver as they try to take on the enemy and save their families. I was on the edge of my seat with this book and downloaded book 3 instantly!
