I put the book down for two weeks after the scene where the runs off leaving his friend to be assaulted. Finished it after, but it wasn't worth the effort. I did not feel close to the main character, his journey or story for a majority of the book.

Excellent book that I pulled from a Best Books of the 21st Century list. While it’s not my typical read, it did bring out a lot of emotion and is a story I won’t forget. I did not mind the historical component as it was imperative to the story which was ultimately a HUMAN story.
