I loved getting Grim and Isla’s backstory!

Yup, the writing is still bad like the first one.

At the very least, her descriptive writing wasn't as bad as the first. I'm sorry, but if you're going to attempt to add all of those purple little flourishes in your writing ("the sun cracked like an egg"), you have to at least have some writing talent. So luckily she kept the writing more simple, which made it a lot more readable.

But where the writing really suffered was in ALL THE FREAKIN PLOT HOLES. This book is essentially one giant plot hole. The entire plot is based around such a wild, grand assumption on Isla's part. Like girl you do not have enough data on the matter to be starting a whole ass WAR over these vague niblets of information that could have so many different interpretations. Oh, and lo and behold, we find out in the end that she interpreted this information wrong after it's already too late

Fuck, I’m so mad that this was bad. I really liked the first book and was looking forward to this one, but I struggled to finish it. Like skimmed some parts because I could not wait to be done and this was due back at the library in a few days. I may read the third book but we shall see. I heard it won’t be the final installment in the series which is stupid.
