I read this book as a participant in a Litfuse Blog Tour for the book. One of the things that really motivated me to take part in this tour is that 100% of the proceed of this book for to fund the work at Hope Foster Home. Their site is located here.

One of the main things that kept coming back to me in reading this book was the faith that Robin and Joyce Hill placed in God to lead them down the right path and to make the right decisions. Even when it seemed like they were going to run out of money or room to take in more at risk and in need babies they believed that what they needed would be provided, and it was. It is a faith that so many of us lack or struggle with. It is hard to trust that God will provide when so many signs are pointing in the opposite way, but people come into your life for a reason and you may be called to do things that are uncomfortable, but if you break free from the mold of safe and easy, the rewards can be even greater.

It was so insightful to see how Joyce and Robin came into the life that they now lead and the good that they are doing for so many children. It is hard to see a child in need of medical help and to step up with a willingness to use their own money if necessary to get these babies the help they need. It is equally hard to realize that not all of the babies in need of operations are going to be able to be saved, some may have conditions that cannot be cured and that will end in their early departure from this world. But to have love and attention for the time they are able to be here is priceless.

I gained a new appreciation of adoption from reading this and the hoops and conditions that people must comply with in order to bring a forever child into their homes and their lives.

The House of Hope by Elisabeth Gifford is a moving story of one couple's decision to make a difference for the Lord. Robin and Joyce Hill were finishing their time living in Beijing, China and getting ready to move for his job when Joyce was struck with the conviction from God that they were to open a home for orphans who were too sick to be adopted and get them the care they need. A visit to an orphanage four years earlier had struck the couple's heart, but they were unsure how to help at first, but when Joyce came up with the idea for The House of Hope, Robin was quickly on board. They began by taking in one little girl into their dining room, and grew over ten years to care for over 1000 children, offering many of them the opportunity to find a "forever family" by getting them the operations they need to not just survive, but to really live. This is the story of the Hill's quest to save as many children as they can by treating each child as if he/she were their own. Gifford does a terrific job of portraying the loving and compassionate nature of the Hills by telling the story of individual children who would have died without their care. The stories are joyful, poignant, and thought provoking as readers will be compelled to consider how God could be calling them to act. Robin and Joyce Hill are my heroes, showing these children the face of God through incredible acts of sacrifice and love.

f you’ve read my blog for any length of time you’ll know that I have a heart for adoption as well as a heart for foreign missions so when I had the chance to review The House of Hope which takes the reader to a Chinese orphanage called Hope Foster Home I couldn’t get on board fast enough. This book will tug at your heart and there will be times your eyes will flow with tears and your heart will literally ache for these children – the least of these. I felt myself wanting to reach through the pages of the book and give a hug to the Hill’s and their staff but most of all take all these children home with me!

I’ve been told by well meaning people if we should ever adopt that we should never consider a child with a health issue. This to me, is so heart wrenching, as these children deserve just as much love as a child who is born healthy. That is what the Hill’s wanted to do, give babies and children, who wouldn’t have someone to hold them as they go on to meet Jesus a feeling of being loved and wanted. So if you have a heart for those the Lord calls “the least of these” and you want to learn of what is going on at the Hope Foster Home then please purchase this book – 100% of the proceeds from this book goes toward the Hope Foster Home and the work going on there! You can purchase the book at Amazon.
