I started reading this book because I was listening to the audio drama ‘The Royals of Malibu’ which is based on this series. I was tired of waiting for weekly updates and at the time I thought the books would be just like the audio drama (I was wrong). I think I actually prefer the books over the audio drama.

This book definitely became a guilty pleasure because by no means is the drama and the relationships that are portrayed in this book healthy (that’s okay though because not every book needs to be.) There’s a lot of sexism and toxicity book the book is also based in the south so…

This is your typical “good girl x bad boy” romance. That is if you can even classify Ella as a good girl and Reed as a bad boy (aside from trying to ruin Ella’s life before she got to Astor Prep and illegal street fighting Reed really isn’t even that much of a bad boy). Cliches aside this book was so entertaining to me. There were definitely moments where i was like “Ella stand up, have a backbone” but we wouldn’t have our main pairing if she did.

Reading Paper Princess felt like I was just watching a new season of Gossip Girl. The ending of book 1 is pretty similar to how season 1 ended in the audio drama so i wasn’t too rattled, but Reed Royal count your days!!

Ok. I have never written a review before so I'm sorry if it's hard to understand. BUT. THIS. GODDAMN. BOOK. Mentally scarred me.
The book (and the series) is a literal Wattpad mafia mets the rich bad boy fanfiction and (as someone who used to eat that shit every day) it makes me sick to the core to know that *this* is considered ok to be published. Honestly? It would've been a *great* idea if it kept the "plot", but turned the message from "this is totally ok and not toxic" to "this behaviour is not ok, but everybody can change. Therapy and other professionals are there for you. And if they don't change, leave them. Also, *CONSENT*??? HELLO??? YOU THERE?"
To think that this book went through so many hands before it was published and IT STILL WENT TROUGHT. If someone, anyone, girl, boy, non binary, teen, child, adult or elder reads this review, please know that this kind of behaviour is toxic, not ok and dangerous.
