Hoooooo boy. Ok. I wanted something simple and stupid to read, and I picked up this trilogy of books somewhere a while back because I remembered reading earlier books in the Eve Duncan series and liking them. Either I do not remember them correctly or this series has really gone off the rails, Stefan Urquelle style.

First, a whole lot more paranormal/otherworldly shit than I remember. Had I known that at the outset, I probably would not have read them. Or at least I would have been expecting something preternatural vs. thinking it would be a real world sort of read. Sure, have the cops go to the psychic as a last resort, whatever. But
Spoiler the combination of the woman who literally talks to animals, the dude who controls blood flow, the psychic ghosts who communicate through dreams...
too much. I get the deus ex machina trope, but this is TOOOOOO many of them, and they are so friggin' overt.

Secondly, so many characters were introduced and not all of them seemed necessary to advance the plot. This issue only gets worse as the series continues.

However, I did find the overarching plot interesting, so 3 begrudging stars.

This book was okay. It isn't the Eve Duncan thriller that I was hoping for and I don't think it will improve in the next two books. I don't know anyone, now or ever, who engenders the level of loyalty and hero-worship that Eve gets from, well, everyone, and that makes it difficult to believe the majority of this story line. The whole father worshiping the son thing throws plausibility out the window for whatever was left. However, I will finish the trilogy because I have committed to it, but, unless something changes, I probably won't be happy about wasting my time when it's over.

Accidentally began with the 13th in the series: Whoops. Fortunately it didn't matter as it seems the book can stand on its own. Nevertheless, the story is good enough that I will undoubtedly go back and read the rest at some point. Great read, albeit sometimes far fetched.

I picked up this series a while back but refused to read it because I can't seem to handle the cliffhangers this author writes. I have been reading the Eve Duncan series for quite a few years, and it's like a fine wine....just keeps getting better. I love all the characters, but Jane has been my favorite out of all of them. Her dip between Caleb and Trevor has spiked my curiosity for some time. This book doesn't disappoint but I felt like I wanted to know Janes character better because Eve is so good at getting herself out of situations. I want more romance, and maybe Jane needs more solo books. So now I have all three books and I'm going to finish it. Overall entertainment is four stars.

Too many characters to fully keep track of, lots of tiny plot points that likely would make more sense in the overarching series. Was told this trilogy could stand alone, but not sure I agree. Read in 2 hours, 39 minutes
