Pathetic. And that's being nice.

Let me start by saying that I really wanted to give this book an earnest try and to like the story... but I can't. It is very poorly written. There are gaping plot holes, a brilliant lack of details (background or otherwise), the characters are barely one dimensional, it skips and glazes over extremely important aspects of what it is to be human and grappling with trauma, and it's attempts at comedy are best suited for fledgling 12 years old prepubescent boys. The entire premise and storyline lack every component of good, sincere, provocative storytelling. I know that this is a harsh review, but it is deserving of it. The characters are meant to be in their late twenties. And yet the dialogue and subject matter is spoken about with the maturity of middle school children.

Furthermore and most importantly, on the topic of rape this author clearly has absolutely no knowledge of it's aftermath. The lead character who is the victim of rape per the storyline, is robotic, mechanical and utterly unbelievable. The character was supposedly so traumatized by her rapist that she fled into hiding, from everyone she knew and loved, abandoning her life completely to be come a hermit. But suddenly with no rational build-up, healing, or therapy thrusts herself into a 6hrs road trip with two male strangers to journey back home, just like that, for her estranged sister's wedding after ONE phone call after 3 years of having vanished.

Lastly, at about 50% through this inane attempt at writing I realized this "book" had no possibility of ending gracefully. Which lead me to finally stop torturing myself trying to push through to the good part.

This book started out heartbreaking and then kept getting worse and when you thought it couldn't possibly get any worse, it definitely did.

Poorly researched book. Writes the protagonist out of character so often. Don't get me started on the other characters. A book with no ending (it just stops and you have to purchase the next in the series). No thanks.

Free book from Amazon. skimmed most of it and still got the gist of the story. I wonder why she has it split up when you could probably just make it into one book. The plot twist at the end is pretty easy to spot if you just think about the start of the novel. I'm starting to lose my faith in free books from Amazon.

not bad. not thrilled with this book being split into three, seems kind of greedy.

Meehan, it was okay. Not bad but bot overly exciting either, maybe also due to the shortness... Not sure if I wanna read the other two books still, maybe when they are on sale or free other wise, no thanks!

I knew who the fiancé of for Carmes was somehow and well...it wasn't my cup of tea. But there were a few nice passages I highlighted...

I wanted to like this but it was so short without any resolution and the whole rapist thing was so obvious and rather cliched.

I really really tried to get into this book but couldn't. With a blind family member I felt there were some real faux pas the author made with the blind protagonist. Particularly, a blind person doesn't "see darkness". That would be like us trying to see with our hand. They don't see darkness, they don't see anything, particularly someone who's been blind since birth.
I liked the main character and empathized with her right from the start, but the whole deal with the doctors was just... strange and totally unprofessional. They were breaking all sorts of IRB protocols and HIPPA rules right from the beginning. Had to put it down when the guy started talking about porn and dripping fluids right in front of a research participant.
