Almost every book I’ve read recently has focussed on the atrocities of war (that’s because I seek out war novels for some reason) and this book is no different. I hate Rin but I love how she’s written. I both understand her and fear her. The wonder created in part one is all too eagerly snatched up the moment you turn the page to part two. And part two’s entertaining shrouded experience of war disappears in part 3. This book is so well thought out and executed I genuinely have a hard time reckoning with this being R. F. Kuang’s first novel. She truly is a once-in-a-generation genius.

nothing characters with flimsy motivations, all over the place world building that is at times distracting, pacing that feels off ... some sections also feel weirdly disjointed ? i have more problems too but i don't feel like writing more .. idk what happened here
