Really glad that I gave John Grisham another shot after ‘The Rooster Bar’.

I really enjoyed this book as I’m a big fan of historical fiction, especially set in the South. ‘The Last Juror’ is a dark, but fun and easy read following a newspaper editor in a small town enveloped in the horror’s of a brutal murder. Has a lot of the small-town gossip vibes that I love to find in books as well.

Willie Traynor moves from Syracuse to Ford County, MS, where he takes over the local newspaper and makes his living reporting small town news, gossip, and obituaries. His most interesting story comes in the form of a brutal murder that rocks the town and leaves unrest in its wake for years to come.

Pros
This was an easy read and generally held my interest! The concept was interesting, if not super original. I also really liked the character of Miss Callie and her relationship with Willie

Cons
•overall, it felt…pointless? There wasn’t exactly a main conflict or much suspense, Willie was an uninteresting narrator/character, and the resolution wasn’t satisfying. This is a little frustrating because it COULD have been an idea for a great thriller! But alas no
•The last 40 pages of the book could have been dragged out to be more suspenseful or engaging- based on the back cover, I thought that would be the story’s focus instead of that add on

Recommendation: I recommend if you’re looking for an easy, plot-based read and like crime stories- but not if you want to solve the crime story, as there’s not much mystery here. An easy, brainless read, but ultimately not one that gets me excited.
