Slightly disappointed in this western tale by Loren Estleman due to the sheer amount of time it takes the story to get to the "western" bit. The main character in late 19th century texas goes undercover as a preacher [real occupation: marshall] and attempts to take down a group of bandits while speaking the good word. Fun premise, but Estleman takes up half the smallish book getting the marshall up to speed on the gospel. What I'm trying to say is there is a TON of religion talk in this. There's more Bible action than gun action and it being a western, that's a little disappointing. I'd never read Estleman before and he does have a spare writing style that translates well to this genre, there's just way too much of a build up before we find ourselves witnessing the lawman at work.
