While STARVING THE ARTIST reads more like an extended-play essay than a book, Aicher covers a lot of turf.

His strength is in summarizing the current challenges faced by content creators. He doesn't offer nearly as many practical solutions as the book's title suggests. (His key recommendation is to find your niche and price your work at a premium.)

The e-version of the book suffers from some formatting flaws; and the manuscript would have benefited from the eye of a professional editor. (Aicher states in the book that it only cost him $20 to produce the book. I'm assuming that he self-edited.)

All that said, this tiny little book does have a lot to offer anyone who is trying to get a handle on what e-book piracy and other issues mean to writers and other creators today.
