More plot points escaped me than usual but I finally got the longer, team-based story I'd been waiting on. Not even mad at the ending since it promises to pull Hellboy's reckoning with his backstory to the forefront.
Rodger the homonculus grows from the seeds of a personality we witnessed at the end of the last volume to a lovely soul who I was really rooting to make it through. Fun to see HB operate alongside someone he doesn't have to protect as well! I would say he stole scenes, but it seemed more like an intentional, gracious sharing.
I did mistake Rasputin for Lobster Johnson when he showed up unexpectedly in silhouette form but for the most part it's incredible how much clarity and the impression of detail Mignola gets out of his stark shapes and near-flat colours. Nothing looks like Hellboy.

Possibly my favourite volume of the ones I've read so far (up to volume 8). The plot's great and the artwork is particularly beautiful. I think this is the first one where I noticed the use of colour and how great it makes some of the pages look.
