THE book for converts starting out in your journey. a fantastic summation of so much info you will find shared in a less efficient and more confusing way from other sources. Not everything will apply to you (e.g. marriage related info, hatafat dam brit, etc) but it’s all interesting, accurate, and shared with the joyful and respectful attitude all converts have towards Judaism <3

really beautiful book that oozes with love for Judaism. as a non-american interested in the faith a lot of the information was not applicable to me but this would be an invaluable resource for American converts.

I feel like this book is more intended for converts by marriage/relationship than those for whom conversion has no interpersonal ties. I appreciated that it was uplifting in terms of making a jew-by-choice feel equally as valuable to the community as those born into the faith. However, I didn't see any "handbook for converting" qualities about this book, so the title is misleading.

good information, although you could tell that it was written in the 90s. also, a lot of the information isn't super helpful if you aren't converting for marriage.

Though this book is more about the internal reasoning for beginning conversion or returning to Jewish practice than it is a manual, it was something that was useful for me to read at the start of this year as I contemplated what it would mean to convert and how people would respond to me.
