I think if this was someone’s first time reading The Great Gatsby, they might not *get* it 100%. I think the plot is clear, but a lot of the background and subtext was probably lost. Having read it multiple times, I didn’t feel that I personally missed anything. But because of the limited text, several lines stood out to me that hadn’t in the original novel. I’d like to re-read the novel soon to find out if these were actual lines or liberties taken by the adaptor.

The watercolor art was absolutely gorgeous and perfectly suited the atmosphere.

I do think it’s interesting that both of the graphic novel adaptations were published by Candlewick.
