The only letdowns in this book are:
The under reaction to Haldyn/Elva - I get there were bigger issues to contend with, but even after that, Blaze seems to have no true sense of betrayal
Also there was some terminology that was just never explained. You’re kind of thrown in at the deep end and expected to pick it up, but even by the end of the book I had no idea what these words meant even as they’re being constantly thrown around .
Otherwise the writing style was so addicting - ‘one more chapter’ easily turned into 15 chapters - and the characters were all interesting and dynamic. Excited for the sequel(s?)

I enjoyed reading this debut novel.
Before I go into criticism, I just wanted to mention that I will continue to read this series. I was hooked the entire time. However, there are flaws that I cannot ignore.
1. I wish there was more character development. The characters felt like they existed to serve the FMC. They didn’t really feel too dynamic.
2. I feel like it was lacking detail. Just as I was getting immersed into a scene - the scene was over. It read like “and then this happened and then this happened and then this happened… etc”
3. I felt some of the plot points to be convenient storytelling. Like of course there’s a man in the library ready to spell out the plot.
All that being said - i still had a good time! Which is really all that matters, isn’t it?

Was this good? Maybe.
More likely was that my brain needed something mindless to listen to and Libro had it. So here we are.
No new ground was trod here. This is a basic YA chosen one story. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows meets Divergent with a dash of Frozen tossed in. Love triangles. Sorted into houses by elements. 3 magic items that you supreme power. Terribly corny names- Blaze, Flint, Fox( yes the love interests name is literally Fox)etc. Yada yada yada.
For a debut book, I do think the writing was solid.
Do I need to read the two that will inevitably follow this one? Probably not.
